Enemy Design (2022)

In this project I was tasked with designing, modeling, texturing, rigging and animating a series of enemy creatures for a jungle themed expanssion. The creatures on the brief were often disconected so I chose to anchor them through a shared design language and theaming.

Creature Designs

Working from each creature's gameplay mechanics (as described in the design doc.) I worked on creating a shared visual language. The jungle environment would be overwhelmingly filled with greens and browns. Because of this, those two colors are present in most of the designs, with contrasting accents in order to make them both blend inn, and stand out. The more plant-like creatures are accented with red, to signify danger. The hornets use those browns and off-greens but stand out due to their bright yellow. And creatures like the "junglions" use reds and off-whites as their accent color.

Animations

While the hornet boss' triangular shapes are even more pronounced, exaggerating its stings and adding spiky hairs on its back, the baby hornet had to go in the opposite direction. As part of the brief, I was to design a friendly version of the hornet that can be tamed as a reward after the fight. For this, I had to round out the shapes and make it more appealing and friendly looking than it's counterparts.
